The Boys, Darkly Comic
Without knowing anything more than that The Boys was a new TV superhero series and an Amazon exclusive, I decided to take the plunge and give it a try – and really I am so glad I did.
“…all you need to know is this: if you like an uber-violent, raven-black humour take on the superhero genre with a lot of script intelligence that flips the comic book film status-quo on its’ cape multiple times, the wait is over!”

The less you know upfront – the better The Boys is…
While I don’t want to keep you in the dark (which is fitting given the content on offer here), you’ll honestly thank me for keeping the details brief and spoiler- free. This is definitely worthy of your time!
So, all you need to know is this: if you like an uber-violent, raven-black humour take on the superhero genre with a lot of script intelligence that flips the comic book film status-quo on its’ cape multiple times, the wait is over .
It’s more Kick-Ass than Avengers in execution – but it really only succeeds thanks to its sarcastic play on the ‘norms’ of the latter franchises and has as much of these in its DNA coming complete with bastard blends of pseudo Wonder Woman, Superman and Captain America fusions.
There’s really nothing else to do but tune in, put your superhero dreams on ice for the duration and let your cerebellum soak-up an (almost) entirely fresh delivery of a genre that is often advserse to taking risks.
So put your feet up & drop out to this – it’s gripping from start-to-finish and it’s on Prime – so if you’re already a member, it means it sells for our favourite price…free. Now stick that in your superhero spandex and binge watch the first season now.
